Tips for Parents to Ensure Student Success
1. Clearly communicate your expectations to your middle school student as well as consequences when they do not meet them. These expectations should be challenging yet attainable.
2. Make it a routine to check your student's agenda every night.
3. Choose at least one day per week to sit down with your student and check the parent portal together. This will give you a clear picture as to how he/she is doing academically.
4. Designate a study time and place for your child. Work with your student to pick a time and place where school work should be completed each day. Study areas should be as free from distractions as possible.
5. Continue to closely monitor your child’s access to available technology (Facebook, texting, etc.)
6. Communicate with your student’s teachers by phone or e-mail. Teachers' emails are located in your student's agenda.
7. Be aware of any drastic changes in your child's behavior, friend selection, grades, and attitude. Please notify his/her teachers or school counselor and communicate your concerns to help ensure your middle schooler has a successful year.
8. Ensure your child attends school every single day.
9. Visit the school office to pick up ParentPortal information which will allow you to view your student's current grades online.
