Grades
There are four grading periods during the school year each ending with a report card. Quarters typically end during the months of October, December, March and June and last between 9 and 10 weeks.
In the middle of each quarter a student may received a progress report if he/she is carrying a D or F grade in a particular class. Progress report grades are not permanent but a warning that the student has 4 to 5 weeks to improve the grade before the end of the grading period.
An automated phone call is made to the phone number of record for each student as an alert to parents that progress reports or report cards have been sent home with students.
Parents can gain access to ParentPortal by coming to the office and getting the website information along with a code to create an account. This allows parents and students to look at student grades from home via a computer. This is a great way to monitor homework turn-in and test scores, as well as to see the overall grade in any class.
After school help can be set up by contacting your student's teachers.
A student's grade point average (GPA) can be calculated by assigning a number to each letter grade, adding up the numbers, and then dividing the total by 6 (the student's total number of classes). A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0
8th Graders & Grades
Students with more than 4 F grades for the year will lose all 8th grade promotion activities which include:
1. Great America Trip
2. 8th Grade Dance
3. Promotion Assembly
Per board policy, once the 5th F is received students are not able to earn back the activities. This information is detailed in the student handbook.
Currently counselors are speaking to 8th grade students with 2 or more Fs on their 1st quarter report card about credit recovery. Fifteen hours of after school class can replace 1 F grade with credit.
