AVID at Williams
The AVID program at WMS started in 2002 with one class of 8th grade students and has grown to eight classes today. There are 2 sections of AVID in 6th grade, 2 sections in 7th grade, and 2 sections in 8th grade serving 185 students. Students in the AVID program take the AVID elective with other AVID students and spend the rest of the day in regular grade level classes with AVID trained teachers. Our AVID students benefit from strategies geared towards preparing students for the rigor of college. Students in each grade level are exposed to campus life through two college field trips every school year. Students are able to continue AVID in high school as all of three of Tracy Unified High Schools offer AVID. When a student applies to AVID, grades, attendance, and behavior are taken into account. There is also a short interview involved. AVID applications are available in the school office.
